Shoulder to Shoulder’s (S2S) mission is to assist high-need individuals and their families in the communities served by Upward Health®. S2S was formed and seeded by Upward Health® leadership in response to observing the urgent non-healthcare needs of Upward Health’s patients and their extended communities.

100% of donations go directly to individuals in need.
Upward Health covers all administrative expenses of the foundation. 

Aida

S2S covered her rent to prevent eviction.

Aida is a single mother of 4 who was at risk of losing her home during a difficult time.

Rusell

S2S covered the cost of the stairlift and the trapeze.

Rusell is 95 and legally blind with low mobility. He lives with his daughter in a home that has 17 stairs. He struggled daily using the stairs.

Melinda

S2S covered the cost of furniture for her apartment.

Melinda is pregnant and recently transitioned from a Self-Regulatory Organization to an apartment with Mercy Housing. She did not have the funds to furnish her new home.

Carmen

S2S covered the cost of the new eyeglasses.

Carmen lives in a senior living facility and is grieving the loss of her son. She needed new eyeglasses that insurance would not cover.

Meet some of our recipients

S2S supports communities with meaningful one-time assistance to address urgent needs.

S2S provides one-time financial assistance per household to help with urgent basic needs, including:

  • Utility bills
  • Medical expenses and bills
  • Medical supplies 
  • Other essential needs that stabilize households

Most requests we fulfill are in the range of $300–$500, ensuring swift help when families need it most.

My family and I are extremely grateful to S2S for their assistance when we were at risk of losing our housing. It is very difficult for us to ask for or accept help, however, when all other options had been exhausted, we had to turn to S2S. We were met with compassion, understanding, and extreme professionalism in regard to what we perceived as an inevitably hopeless situation. S2S went above and beyond, trying to work directly with our apartment complex and coordinate payment for an arrears amount. This not only helped to make us feel less dismal, but it also made us realize that we were not facing this alone. Thank you, S2S, we are beyond grateful for your organization in helping our family not become homeless.
